An Lecture of Luck in the pursuit of Nothing by Ivan Edward Sutherland

    Ivan Edward Sutherland is an American computer scientist and Internet pioneer.
He received the Turing Award from the Association for Computing Machinery in
1988 for the invention of Sketchpad, an early predecessor to the sort of graphical
user interface that has become ubiquitous in personal computers. He is a member
of the National Academy of Engineering, as well as the National Academy of
Sciences among many other major awards. In 2012 he was awarded the Kyoto
Prize in Advanced Technology for "pioneering achievements in the development
of computer graphics and interactive interfaces".
    Ivan Edward Sutherland made an academic lecture named “Luck in the Pursuit
of Nothing” at school of Information Science and Engineering , Lanzhou University,
on Oct, 27th, 2014. His report including two parts, firstly he introduced the
development of Computer Graphics and his research achievements in this field,
secondly he introduced the status and development trend of integrated circuit,
focused on his research achievements in the field of asynchronous circuits.
After the report. Ivan Edward Sutherland communicated and discussed with
teachers and students, and gave the pertinent advance to the existing problems
in scientific research work to everybody.

    Finally, Ivan Edward Sutherland visited the UAIS laboratory, and students
presented the experiment devices and operation processes of Robot,
Eyemovement, Speech and EEG.
